After many rumors, Xiaomi announced Xiaomi Mi 5C a handset powered by the company’s first in-house processor, the Surge S1. This metal uni-body smartphone is the successor of Xiaomi Mi 4C launched earlier in 2015. It holds a price tag of CNY 1,499 (Approx. Rs, 14,600) and will be going on sale from March 3rd in China. Device comes dipped in Rose Gold, Black and Gold color options.
Xiaomi’s new in-house processor Surge S1 was built by Pinecone a subsidiary started by the company before 2 years. Xiaomi said that it took only 28 months for the processor to be thought of, produced, and integrated into a smartphone. It is an octa-core 64-bit processor with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and four other power-efficient ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. Mali-T860 quad-core GPU integrated brings about 40 percent improved power efficiency, when compared to previous-gen Mali-T760. There’s also a 32-bit DSP for better voice processing for calls and dual microphones for noise reduction.
Added it has 14-bit dual ISP and the company’s own Surge ISP algorithm to improve camera light sensitivity by up to 150 percent, and the dual noise reduction algorithm helps preserving details even in low light. It also supports VoLTE, and has an upgradable baseband and programmable modem architecture. The company claims that this new processor outperforms Qual-Comm Snapdragon 625 chipset, Mediatek Helio P10 and Helio P20 in performance.

In terms of connectivity it offers 3G, 4G LTE, 4G Volte, Wi-Fi ac, Dual Band, Bluetooth 4.1 V, GPS, FM Radio, 3.5 mm Audio Jack and USB Type C 1.0 Reversible Connector.
