Whatsapp which was just a chat app will now appear as a social media app, as the Facebook owned app is about to launch the new version of the app in which the status update is introduced. In this status update one can post status by means of words pictures GiF and videos and much more, which the users can share with their friends.

But this feature differs from just the usual sharing idea, the difference is that the status vanishes, after 24 hours, just like it used to happen in Snapchat, which is also a communication app. For now, whatsapp is testing this brand new cool feature in the Beta version of the app, which will be rolled out to all the users later on. Whatsapp also told that the status feature will also be end to end encrypted. To  use this feature the users will have to update their application to the next updated version.

Jan Kaum, Co founder of Facebook, made the announcement, he said,  “We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.”

To use the status feature, go to the app, a new status tab will be present, open the tab and post status, photos, videos etc, and hence users can share media with their friends, users can also control to whom the post is shared, and as said earlier the status will vanish after 24 hours.

WhatsApp is famous because it is basically easy and fast and one to one communication app. This new feature will take whatsapp to a whole new level nearer to social media, and so users will experience a new WhatsApp. But Jan Kaum doesn’t see it this way, he says,  “Just like eight years ago when we first started WhatsApp, this new and improved status feature will let you keep your friends who use WhatsApp easily updated in a fun and simple way,”

So users update and enjoy sharing media with your friends, and as Facebook and WhatsApp have promised earlier about ad free WhatsApp, we hope there are no ads while using this feature.
